SOMETHING
I want to say something.
Something you need to know.
Something I really want to tell you.
Something can change our something.
Something that we have to know each other.
I have said something.
Something is something I want to say.
Have you already known my something?
Something is something
My something is your something also
And now we are SOMETHING
WE HAVE SOMETHING.

FIRST IS A HELP, SECOND IS A PAYMENT
FIRST IS A HELP, SECOND IS A PAYMENT
To night I spend my Saturday night to
translate a paper from my uncle’s assignment. I have translated many kinds of
his assignments before but he seemingly does not understand me. He asks me for
a help for many times without considering my situation. Well let me tell the
truth I need a wi-fi to download his assignment that he sent me via email, and
also I need a wide knowledge to translate his assignment because it is totally
discuss about politics and it is not my field. Can you see my point? I really
need he pays me for that: for my work. Sometimes I do not understand why people
are just easily to ask for a help in many times and they ignore one to say at
least “thank you” or they give us something like a present for that. Do I look
like not sincere about this? YES I DO..... because he always asks me to translate
his tasks for many many times but never ask me about my circumstance. I also need
a giving back. YOU CAN ASKS ME FOR A HELP ONCE! if you understand the rule I’ill
be happy to work with you.

Bercerita pada Ayah
BERCERITA PADA AYAH
Kau tau ayah semalam saya
mengajar....
Ayah... aku sangat merindukanmu....
Semoga engkau disana tetap baik –
baik saja....
Kau tau ayah.... setiap hari aku
Aku ikhlas atas kepergianmu 2
tahun yang lalu....
Kau tau ayah sejak kepergianmu
semuanya berubah...
Kakak selalu bekerja keras untuk
bisa menghidupi dirinya sendiri..
Akupun tak lagi menjadi anak yang
pemboros...
Aku kini paham bagaimana ayah
dulu mencari nafkah demi menghidupi kami..
Bagaimana aku selalu harus
bertahan dengan keadaan yang pas – pas’an
Tapi aku selalu bahagia ayah....
Ada Ibu, kakak, dan adik2 yang
selalu menyayangiku dengan tulus.
Kami selalu berusaha saling
menjaga satu sama lain meskipun terpisah jarak..
Aku dikelilingi dengan sahabat2
yang baik hati...
Dan aku ditemani seseorang yang
sangat baik padaku...
Yang menjagaku sama seperti
menjaga adik perempuannya...
Yang selalu mendukungku untuk terus
maju dan berkembang...
Tahukah engkau ayah bagaimana
kami saling menjaga satu sama lain???
Bagaimana kami selalu percaya
Aku selalu percaya atas KEKUASAAN
Maka selalu TENANGLAH ENGKAU DISANA
AYAH... Kami sangat MENCINTAIMU....

SOME TECHNIQUES IN PARAPHRASING
PARAPHRASING
Paraphrasing means to restate information using different
words. Unlike summarising though, paraphrasing focuses less on shortening and
condensing the information (Bowker, 13). Paraphrasing aims to rewrite the
information by drawing on different words and phrases. Rewriting a text can be
done in several ways:
1.
By
changing the vocabulary (verbs/nouns)
e.g: She examined the difficulties
that.......
= She investigated the problems that.......
2.
By
changing the verb form (e.g from active to passive: this can change the focus
or emphasis)
e.g: Johns (1987) analysed the
students’ difficulties and......
= The students’ difficulties were
analysed by Johns (1987) and.......
Note: Using passive rather than an
active verb form here changes the focus from the writer to the research i.e the
students’ difficulties.
3. By
changing the word class (e.g. from verb to noun phrase)
e.g: The reports were completed in
April....
= The completion of the reports in
April ensured that the students had time to revise before their examination
Note: Changing the word class allows
you to add your own comments.
4.
By
synthesis
You may need to combine two or more
viewpoints or pieces of information from other writers in your paraphrase and
summary. Often one reference will support another, but there may be opposing
veiws as well.
Example of a synthesis
Johns and Dudley-Evans (1980) touched
on the problems created by the lecturers’ use of colloquial words and
phrases... This use of informal language was also noted by Jackson and Bilton
(1994) who investigated geology lectures given in English....
Two direct quotations are given below
relating to the same topic (note taking). Paraphrase and combine them in abrief
report (not using direct quotations). See the Structure and Vocabulary Aid for
a selection of reporting verbs.
‘Tersenes of not taking.... rather
than mere quantity seems to be an essential ingredient of effective.... note
taking. ‘ (Dunkel, 1988)
‘Several other researchers have found
similar positive relationships between “terseness” of notes and test
performance...’ (Chaudron, Loschky and Cook, 1994)
Note: terseness here means being
brief or concise.

#SOME EXAMPLES IN PARAPHRASING
1.
Constructivist Learning (Original text)
As a philosophy
of learning, constructivism can be traced to the eighteenth century and the
work of the philosopher Giambattista Vico, who maintained that humans can
understand only what they have themselves constructed. A great many
philosophers and educationalists have worked with these ideas, but the first
major contemporaries to develop a clear idea of what constructivism consists in
were Jean Piaget and John Dewey, to name but a few. Part of the discussion that
ensues grapples with the major tenets of their philosophies, with a view to
shedding light on constructivism and its vital contribution to learning. As a
revealing gloss on this issue, it could be said that constructivism takes an
interdisciplinary perspective, inasmuch as it draws upon a diversity of
psychological, sociological, philosophical, and critical educational theories.
In view of this, constructivism is an overarching theory that does not intend
to demolish but to reconstruct past and present teaching and learning theories,
its concern lying in shedding light on the learner as an important agent in the
learning process, rather than in wresting the power from the teacher.
Within the
constructivist paradigm, the accent is on the learner rather than the teacher.
It is the learner who interacts with his or her environment and thus gains an
understanding of its features and characteristics. The learner constructs his
own conceptualisations and finds his own solutions to problems, mastering
autonomy and independence. According to constructivism, learning is the result
of individual mental construction, whereby the learner learns by dint of
matching new against given information and establishing meaningful connections,
rather than by internalising mere factoids to be regurgitated later on. In
constructivist thinking, learning is inescapably affected by the context and
the beliefs and attitudes of the learner. Here, learners are given more
latitude in becoming effective problem solvers, identifying and evaluating
problems, as well as deciphering ways in which to transfer their learning to
these problems.
Paraphrasing:
Doing
an investigation in the eighteenth century, Constructivism as a philosophy of
learning can be found and also straightly head to the work of the philosopher
"Giambattista Vico" who maintained that humans can understand only on
what they have established by themselves. These opinions have been run by many
experts in philosophy and educational field but the first primary
contemporaries to expand an obvious idea of what contructivism involves with
were Jean Piaget and John Dewey, to name but some. Part of the discussion that
accrues strive with the main tenets of their philosophies, with a paradigm of
shedding light on constructivism and its essential contribution in learning. For clarifying this issue distinctly, It
could be assumed that constructivism picks an interdisciplinary view, inasmuch
as tended to be a diversity of psychlogicaal, sociological, philosophical, and
critical educational theories. Constructivism in this perspective is defined as
a comprehensive theory which does not refer to abolish but to reestablished
previous and current teaching and learning theories. Its prioritise to make the
student as a main actor in the learning process, instead of omitting the major
job of the teacher.
Constructivism
believes that the learners obtain a wider side of accent rather than the
educator. The learners generate knowledge and meaning from an interaction
between their experiences and their ideas. The learners can discover who they
are by exploring their thought, dealing
with the problems, conquering autonomy and independence. Constructivism argues
that learning is the consequence of personal mental construction whereby the
learner learns by din of fitting new toward delivered information and
constructing significant relation, rather than by internalising sole factoids
to be revoked it next. In constructivist thinking, the context and the beliefs
and behavior of the learner inescapably influence learning. Here Learners are
given a responsibility to cope with the troubles, finding a creative solution,
and elaborating methods to assimilate their learning to these issues.
2.
Paraphrase the following short paragraph.
“Children spend a very large proportion of their
daily lives in school. They go there to learn, not only in a narrow
academic sense, but in the widest possible interpretation of the word – about
themselves, about being a person within a group of others, about the
community in which they live, and about the world around them. Schools
provide the setting in which such learning takes place.
"Anak-anak menghabiskan proporsi yang
sangat besar dari kehidupan mereka sehari-hari di sekolah. Mereka pergi ke sana
untuk belajar, tidak hanya dalam arti akademis sempit, tetapi dalam kemungkinan
interpretasi terluas kata - tentang diri mereka sendiri, tentang menjadi
#Style 1
Children take
a widest roles of their habitual activity in school. Besides studying they are
also possible to develop their mind and their relation to the others such as:
knowing each others between them, knowing their environment, and knowing their
broad life. Learning and studying will be run together in a well-organized
system of the school.
#Style 2
A very broad
proportion of their daily lives in school is taken by the kids. School is not
only a place where they gained the academical knowledge but also they can grow
and develop their mind to be a better person both individually and collectively
in their society environment. A unique setting of that learning need can take
place within educational buildings.

Walau seringkali terasa kecut..
Tetap jua ku biarkan membuai rasa..
ku izinkan berlayar melewati samudera rasa
Walau seringkali terasa kecut..
Tetap jua ku biarkan membuai rasa..
ku izinkan berlayar melewati samudera rasa
Meredam sengatan amarah dalam pekatnya embun malam
Dan menyatu dalam gelora RINDU yang bersambut...
Ku Biarkan
Sekali lagi ku biarkan…
Dan tetap ku biarkan….
Ku luangkan waktu sepenuhnya untuk membiarkanmu berbicara…
Tak mengapa untuk menyakitiku…
Tak mengapa untuk mencaciku
Tak apalah ku terima semua ini
Tak apalah Ku harus tertekan dengan semuanya ..
Demi konsekuensi yang tak berujung..
Ku terima..
Sekali lagi Ku terima
Dan tetap ku terima…
CANTIK
CANTIK
Semua perempuan didunia ingin CANTIK.

Telling Experience
Holiday in
United State
Several
years ago, I went to U.S and spent an unforgetable holiday there. I invited my
three collegues whom I have known since in university. We flew to Washington
(the capital of U.S), after spending three day there, we went to New York by
Bus as our first destination. New York is one of the biggest city in the world
and more metropolitan city in U.S. We spent our night in one of the biggest and
most famous hotel in New York besides Four Season, Hilton hotel which is
heredity of Paris Hilton generation. Actually, New York is not glorier than
what I imagined. The city is very compact, stuck, and rude. If I have known
before, we did not want to stop there, at the city which called “unslept city”.
Then we continued our tour to Michigan which called “Jazz Music from here”.
Michigan is really different from New York. Michigan is calmer and full of
space than New York. Eventhough, we spent just one day there to pick up our old
friend, Emma, who learnt in one of the university in Oregon city. She too
Philosophy major. Emma is an old friend who was admired by us because She is
really smart. It was not suprised she took Philosophy major.
After
leaving Michigan, we visited Emma’s family in Alabama. Alabama is a historical
city that full of respect. Unfortunately Emma should stay there and can not
join us to continue our journey. She did not tell us the reason why she should
stay there. Honestly, Whether or not she wanted to join, it does not matter.
California was our next destination we nearly could not enjoy many beaches
there because the whether was really hot. More we dried, more we got black
skin. Luckily, several days later the whether was back to normal. There was
unlucky situation when we dried in Beach. We lost our camera we thought that
someone steal it but actually we forgot to take it. We should checkt it before
left to Alabama. I asked Emma to bring that camera to Long island as our last
destination in two days. When we arrived in Long island, I have to meet someone
whom his son already knew by me since we met accidentaly in New York several
weeks ago. They invited us for having a
dinner in thanksgiving day. We have spent one month for visiting many tourism
places in U.S althought New York was regreting us.

Examination Hinders Education
Examination Hinders Education
Examination in education
is a kind of testing students’ ability to perform in a particular subject. When
learning and teaching process was conducted perfectly, one way to prove the
potentiality of the students in understanding the material well is by executing
the test. There are many kinds of tests, each with a specific purpose, a
particular criterion to be measured. They are diagnostic test, placement test,
progress or achievement test, proficiency test, internal test, external test,
objective test, subjective test, and combination test (Ezekiel, 2012). Those
types of tests are way of checking knowledge or comprehension. They are the
main instrument which used to evaluate learning by most educational
institutions. Arikunto (1992) stated that the characteristics of the tests
typically are both –reliable – they should be expected to show consistent
results for each student, and valid – the tests should be accurately testing
the content that they are supposed to test. Nowadays, examinations seem to be
an indispensable part of education. Some people argue that exams exert a
detrimental influence on both students and teachers, while some others claim
that exams have the inherent advantages. People are not likely to reach a
consensus in this issue, so let’s take a consideration of both contrary sides
in the following paragraph.
Some arguments manifest that examinations have some merits. In the first
place, they are easy tools to regularly assess a student's capability. Exams
help a lot to bring an improvement in the individual's knowledge because they
provide regular feedback to the students who acknowledge their shortcomings and
work on them. In the second place, examinations are not only a knowledge test,
but also give a challenge to students express what they learn under pressure.
Students can adapt to the fierce competition in the future much more easily. In
the third place, it is also a feedback to teachers. Teachers can find out what
are their students advantages and disadvantages through the exams, and change
the teaching plans and teaching methods based on the results.
Admittedly, exemptions also have the drawbacks. To begin with, some students
may lose their confidence and self-esteem if they cannot get an excellent
score. Moreover, too more exemptions make students exhausted. For instance, in
some Chinese school, students take more than 10 exams in a week, which will
make the students lose their interest in study (Woessman, 2011). On the other
hand, they also have a poor predictive quality because they only judge a
student's ability under set conditions and limited time. Many times, a student
who is otherwise good may get anxious or confused under strict exam conditions
and may not perform up to the mark.
In a nutshell, I would concede that too more examinations may have some bad
effects. Despite that, I am convinced that examinations can promote the
development of education. Overall, I believe that both teachers and
students would get benefit from the reasonable exams. Examinations should be
formative in order to be effective because students learn in different ways.
Examinations can be also modified from the traditional paper- pen style to
modern computer or hands-on method. The good results of exams is to give more
information about students' learning to parents, teachers and students
themselves, so that strengths will be maintained and weakness will be corrected
on time.
My Hometown in next 20 years
Writing
Write one or two paragraphs about your city will be like in next
twenty years! In your composition you
should describe:
Ø
Infrastructure available
Ø
Technology applied
Ø
People’s lifestyle
My
Hometown in next 20 years
I
personally lived in Tiworo archipelago, West Muna, South East Sulawesi. It’s
difficult to think or to forecast about what happened for the future in my city,
but I think everything is going to change more in the next twenty years. To
think about an indefinite future is very interesting. No one knows the world of
20 years in the future. I just guess about it; however, I think it will be
better to live then than now. I can say
my city will be a better city after 20 years from now, because I think one and other
parts will change for the better. Those things involves: infrastructure,
technology, and lifestyle.
For
the infrastructure in my city, I think it will be more awesome than the
existing infrastructure. Everything will be built in the luxury way such as:
the road will be wider than now, the harbour will be an international track,
the extravagant buildings are everywhere, and the tourist will come every week to enjoy
many maintained tourism places in West Muna. Therefore the investment will be
developed continually for the prosperity of society.
Twenty
years later there will be a technological change on an astonishing scale. You
can finish every work by "one touch"; you just hold a small remote,
and it will order everything. For example, the car will drive to your house by
itself according to your orders; the TV will choose the best program and tell
you what is the important news for you today. The cars will not only be driven
on the road, but also fly in the sky; you don't need to drive them actually,
because everything is automatic.
On
the other hand, when so many new things are acquired in our life, that will
cause some problems in life. Maybe people will feel strange around other
people, because direct talk to one another will be rarely. The lifestyle of the
people changed to be more modern because of the sophisticated machines. We use
the Internet to connect everything. However, something should be considered
that eye contact, face expression, and physical touch are very important as
human beings.
Those
advances aspects will help people more efficiently. But I hope in 20 years
later not only technology and infrastructure will turn to be better, but also people’s
lifestyle. I wish all of the people in my city especially and in the world
broadly will realize that religion is the first root to educate people to be
well-behaved in every part of their life. So the peacefulness in this world
will be achieved well, because each people will take care each other, love each
other, and interact each other politely. In twenty years later, there will be
no war, violence, starvation, poverty and everything that could make us as a
bad figure. People will live in a clean life securely on this nice earth.

Welcoming Ramadhan Month: Traditional Version (MUNA TRIBE)
WELCOMING RAMADHAN MONTH
(Muna Tribe’s Style)
Ramadhan is the big month of moslem
in the world. This month is the special month to fast in order to get forgiveness
from Allah S.W.T. Indonesia, a bigger country of moslem, has diffrent style to
celebrate this month as a result of the diversity of cultures. One of the
cultures is Muna. Muna as a culture that exists in South East Sulawesi has three
ceremonial traditions for welcoming fasting month id est: praying together in early
fasting, making a devotional visit to
the grave, making noisy sound from the traditional manner.
Praying together in early fasting
means all of the family in Muna people sitting togteher to pray. Usually this
traditional activity will be guided by Imam,
while doing this activity women in Muna will prepare many traditional food to
be eaten such as: ayam kaparende, lapa – lapa, cucuru, sayur bening, waje, and so forth. The praying is conducted in early evening before first
Ramadhan coming. They believe that this activity intends to grateful to our
creator because they can cheerfully meet again with this special month.
Making a devotional visit to the
grave, two or three days before Ramadhan
people in Muna will grouply go to the grave bring a bottle of water, a dupa,
and a set of tools for cleaning graves.
They will clean the grave and after that they will pray for the safety of the
the human corpse in hereafter. While doing this parying they also switch on the
dupa. They belive that the fumes of
dupa will connect them to the human corpse in order to make their praying
successfully deliver to them. Commonly people in Muna will prioritize to go to
their relative’s graves first.
Producing noisy sound from traditional
manner, children in Muna usually make the noisy sound from the big bamboo and
switch on this one by using oil (It seems like fire cracker). Much oil will
produce the biggest sound. They can laugh and compete the biggest sound of it. This
activity is a kind of welcoming Ramadhan month with the joy.
Every culture has different style
for welcoming Ramadhan month. Muna people is one of the tribes in Indonesia
that has traditional activity for welcoming it. All of these activities sign as
their grateful to Allah because they can do fasting anymore. They also give a respect to human corpse by
praying for their safety in hereafter. So it is indicated that the society of
Muna tribe greet Ramadhan month by doing any activities that connecting them to
the others in horizontally (other people) and vertically (Allah).
